Sandbox
We call Production the Salesforce version to which users are connected in real time.
The test version is called Sandbox. A Sandbox test version is a copy of your Production organisation which allows you to develop codes and configure changes, run tests and train users in a specific organisation without any risk of compromising the data.
You must have the specific licenses to be able to use the Sandboxes.
You can access the test environments via the URL https://test.salesforce.com/ using the following identifiers:
Username: <name of production user>.<name of Sandbox>
Password: <production password>
There are various types of Sandboxes:
- Full: Copies the entire production organisation, including metadata and data. Its storage is limited based on the production organisation. It can be refreshed every 29 days.
- Partial Copy: Copies the defined metadata and data to a Sandbox test version model from the production organisation. The storage capacity is limited to 5 GB of data and 10,000 recordings maximum per object selected. It can be refreshed every 5 days.
- Developer Pro: Only copies the metadata of the production organisation. Does not copy data, but up to 1 Gb of data can be loaded separately. It can be refreshed once per day
- Developer: Only copies the metadata of the production organisation. Does not copy data, but enables loading up to 200 MB of data separately. It can be refreshed once per day.
Note: The number and type of Sandbox test versions for your organisation depends on the Salesforce edition.
Warning: New sandboxes which are not activated within 30 days will be deleted. An e-mail will be sent to the owner before deletion.
The Sandboxes are locked when all licenses for a specific type of Sandbox are expired. Sandboxes locked for 60 days will be deleted.
Ex: We wish to integrate a new sales process in the Salesforce organisation. This process must be tested by different teams before users are informed and the process implemented for them.
